About This Book
Seniors use more health care services, have more chronic diseases, and take more medications than persons of other age groups, and yet they have been shown to have the lowest health literacy of any demographic. This highly accessible primer of health information – for those aged 60 years and older – will help seniors gain a useful level of health literacy to make good decisions and obtain medical treatment.

The primer is based upon evidence-based outcome scientific studies where data exists, and clearly indicates when such data is lacking. Chapters cover topics including health risk factors, social determinants of disease, prevention, surveillance, and wellness, with special sections on men and women. Coverage also includes an overview of the U.S. health care system.
